Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury.

Somatic Experiencing (SE) - Trauma Therapy

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a gentle, body-centred approach used for healing symptoms of trauma, chronic stress, and stress-related disorders. My intention is to offer you a welcoming, safe, and compassionate space where you can reconnect with with your body's healing resilience and wisdom. Somatic Experiencing does not require you to re-tell or re-live traumatic events. Instead, it offers you a compassionate space that listens to your body's cues and boundaries, builds its capacity to self-regulate, and gradually release symptoms of trauma and stress.

In an SE session, you will be carefully supported by me, your therapist, to track and feel body sensations in "manageable bite-size pieces". As your nervous system begins to build a felt sense of trust and safety, you start to feel better in your body, build resiliency to stress, and regain a sense of wholeness.

My Practicer Specialty:
* Anxiety,
* PTSD and Early Developmental Trauma,
* Sexual Trauma, Abuse, and Violence.

For those wanting to explore touch therapy, SE Touch can be part of your session. SE Touch can be particularly helpful for Early Shock Trauma, Early Developmental Trauma, and Complex PTSDT. We will discuss and explore this as a possibility together.

Thank you for your Presence...

Zahara is an accredited and board certified Registered Massage Therapist legislated by the government under the BC Health Professions Act. Zahara’s educational background includes Anatomy, Physiology, Orthopedic and Systemic Pathologies, Neurology, Pain Science, Evidence-based Manual Therapeutic Treatment, and Ethics.

As a BC Healthcare provider and a recommended Practitioner by Pain BC, working at a mastery level, Zahara’s treatment approach involves soft-tissue mobilization to support recovery and better health from pain and injury.

If you are dealing with chronic pain, injury, neuropathy, stress, anxiety or depression and want to overcome barriers to better health, then seek treatment with Zahara. Treatment is focused and intentional to support your recovery by releasing holding patterns and re-establishing the natural push-pull within soft-tissue to regain balance and function.

Zahara’s treatments are NOT a massage service, they are hands-on manual therapeutics to restore balance and function using a variety of techniques to help re-establish self-regulation.

Patients can bring activewear (e.g. t-shirt, tank top, sports bra, shorts) or dress down to their comfort level for treatment and draped appropriately with sheets.

As an Alternative Medicine Practitioner working with physiotherapists and chiropractor, Zahara’s practice is science-based therapeutics utilizing manual therapeutics focusing on modulating the nervous system to support musculoskeletal recovery.

Treatment involves manually manipulating soft tissue to mobilize and release restrictions in an around the nerves, fascia, muscles, bones, and blood vessels down-regulating the nervous system to guide the body towards restorative function from health-related conditions, chronic pain, orthopedic injuries, and stress.

Re-establishing a modulating nervous system relies on balance and function of soft-tissues such as muscles and ligaments, as well as blood circulation, lymphatic flow, and nervous system function. Improved tissue health supports recovering the mind-body connection, self-regulation for better health and ease with daily living.

Zahara’s approach to treatment involves focusing on the neuromyofascial web to bring about neurophysiological change so the patient can feel a difference by:

  1. Relieving symptoms, such as pain/chronic pain, soreness, discomfort, tightness, stress, and inflammation from misuse, disuse, overuse, trauma.

  2. Restoring homeostasis in & around the nervous system.

  3. Regaining balance & function, promoting ease of movement.

  4. Promoting a sense of ease: slowing down the heart & breathing rate, decreasing blood pressure, decreasing stress hormone production, and releasing muscle tension.

  5. Managing stress.

  6. Regaining the mind-body connection to support mental & physical balance.

  7. Regaining a sense of ease with daily living.

Sheryl has been an RMT since 2005, after graduating from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in Vancouver. She worked at a high-end spa in downtown Vancouver for six and a half years, during which time she gained many valuable skills and knowledge. In 2011 she moved to Saskatoon for 4 years where she practiced at a massage therapy clinic, and has been back in Vancouver since the fall of 2015, when she started at Canopy.

Her true passion involves work with women’s health, including painful periods, endometriosis, preconception/fertility, prenatal, and postnatal periods. She utilizes a number of different modalities in her treatments including swedish and petrissage techniques, myofascial release, trigger point release, visceral manipulation, and many others. She understands the need and benefit of relaxation (the majority of all chronic illnesses are triggered by stress in some form), and incorporates elements of this into every treatment she does. Her main goal is always to encourage the body to correct imbalances itself rather than forcing changes.

She has done further training in visceral manipulation – specifically for the female pelvis and the digestive system. She also recently completed training in TMJ treatment and assessment.

She completed training with the International Association of Infant Massage to teach new parents how to massage their babies to enhance bonding and attachment, improve baby’s digestion, improve sleep, and encourage relaxation (both for the baby and the parents!).

How you feel while doing your daily occupations matters. She believes new parents thrive with connection, community and practical hands-on assistance. Needing help during this stage of life is expected; it doesn’t mean you are failing as a parent. You do not need to do this alone; by reaching out to others and resources, you can discover strategies to experiment with for you and your family to live well.

Alyssa is passionate about offering occupational therapy services for parents and children for various challenges (feeding difficulties, developmental activities, mental health, executive functioning, or difficulty participating in your chosen daily occupations)**.

Alyssa is an active volunteer with youth sports. With three kiddos at home, she does a lot of chauffeuring around the North Shore, and therefore she thoroughly enjoys time outdoors with friends and her family.

Miral feels having gone through these experiences herself has allowed her to better understand the variations with birth as well as relate to the physical and mental challenges of a new mom.

Miral’s treatment style includes a combination of manual therapy, exercise therapy, and most importantly, patient education. In addition to working with clients, Miral is often doing free in-services in her community related to pelvic health. She recently joined Canada’s leading pelvic health educator, as a lab instructor and hopes to help grow the number of pelvic health practitioners in BC.

When Miral is not in clinic, she can be found traveling, enjoying the outdoors, or indulging in good food with her children and husband.

With 30 years in the field of health care and wellbeing, I am grateful to witness daily how our whole body can heal and thrive again. My intention is to offer you a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive space where I can witness your unique lived experience with compassion, humility, and respect. Your safety and trust are built patiently with choices, collaboration, and curiosity, with your physical, emotional, mental, cultural, and spiritual health honoured.

I offer you 2 distinct types of “somatic” or body-oriented therapy: CARE- Stress and Trauma-Informed Massage Therapy and Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapy. Each invites you to a welcoming, safe, and compassionate space where you can slow your mind, feel your body, and connect with its resilience and wisdom. You are encouraged to listen to your body’s unique cues and recognize how that awareness plays an integral role in your health and wellbeing. I weave together the teachings of wise body-centred traditions with the expanding field of neuroscience to bring an integrated, whole-body approach to learning, healing, and being in connection with our body.

In practice, and in the community, I am a passionate advocate for supporting the voice, choice and healing of children, and adults who have been impacted by sexual violence, abuse, and trauma. Growing and healing in relationship with Indigenous Peoples is important and meaningful both for me both personally and professionally. I am committed to supporting the wellbeing, and care of all people with outward action that reflects the values I hold inside.

Lastly, I celebrate the wise teacher and healer alive in all of us! Thank you for your presence, and the unique gift your offer. Together, we care and heal as a community.
